The Flag Company Inc And Angola Flag History

By Michel Bright

Bantu-speaking groups moved into the area from around AD500, bringing their farming and metal-work knowledge and pushing the ‘bushmen’ people into remoter regions. The current flag of Angola came into use on November 11, 1975, after Angola became independent from Portugal. It is composed of two equally sized rectangles, red on top and black on the bottom. It has a cogwheel crossed by a machete and there is a gold star.

The red means blood shed by the Angolans amid oppression, defense of the country and the battle for independence. Dark stands for the African mainland. Workers and modern generation are showed by the cogwheel pay tribute to the laborers. The star is typical of universal solidarity and progress and the yellow stands for the wealth of Angola.

There are other interpretations of the colors and symbols found on the Angolan flag. For some people, the understanding of the meaning of Angola flag seems to be based on the flag that was used by the ruling party the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA). It was the same red and black with a gold star in the center. Red represented socialism, black for Africa and the star was reminiscent of the Soviet Union's red star.

Numerous Angolans see the cogwheel and machete as reminiscent of the hammer and sickle on the banner of the Soviet Union and that is an image of socialism. No country in the world has had such a continuously appalling start to independence as Angola, potentially so prosperous from its natural resources but suffering from lethal self-inflicted wounds.

There was another flag proposed in 2003. This is a red rectangle with blue and white stripes across the top and bottom. In the center of the red rectangle, there is a golden sun which is based on ancient cave paintings.

However so far this banner has not been excepted. Numerous think it has no genuine significance when contrasted with the banner now being used which for some individuals join them to their history. Another point is that the banner is an excess of like different banners, for example, Costa Rica and North Korea. Flag Company Inc decided to assist with the history development by providing special decals and banners to make it easy to build a bit of history right at home.
