Nutritional Importance Of Fava Beans

These are the most common and widely used legumes for a very long time since they are very easy to grow. Fava beans are employed mostly as cover crops because they take part in nitrogen fixation because they are also legumes. However, they can survive harsh environmental conditions including freezing temperature and high salt content in the soil, unlike other crops.

Young leaves are usually very delicious and easy to harvest when still growing. The pot herbs can be made from the immature pods. The outer cover is removed by boiling them or sometimes after they are removed from the pods they can be fried to give them a crunchy texture.

They have immense health benefits to humans as they are rich in plant protein and vitamins such as vitamin k and B6 which are essential for growth and development of humans. It also contains substances such as folic acid which enhances the metabolic activities of the body leading to high energy production. They also play a role in the proper function of the immune system and blood.

Broad grain has been known to be very important in the diet of a pregnant woman. Mostly this is usually associated with the reduction of the risks of congenital disabilities. This is due to the abundant folate content in them. Consumption of these gains during the first few week of pregnancy when the fetus is developing is the best time.

Manganese is also a major and essential component that is mainly found in grains. It is important in the formation of bones and prevents calcium deficiency in the body leading the formations of very strong bones formation. Manganese, together with other elements such as copper and zinc can prevent the occurrence of diseases such as osteoporosis.

Magnesium, an element known to eradicate the risks of cardiac diseases is also found in broad grains. Many people depend on the food supplements as a source of magnesium since the body cannot produce enough of it. Thus through these grains, one can have them in sufficient amount. They reduce the blood pressure thus cause the decrease in risks of heart attacks. This activity is enhanced mostly when consumed with other supplements such as vegetables and fruits.

The susceptibility or resistance to certain diseases is entirely based on the ability of the immune system. The broad berry contains a small amount of copper which ensures that there is the production of healthy blood cells. The copper destroys the free radicles in the blood thus preventing the occurrence of cancer and tumor cells. These elements are also found in plenty from the supplementary diet.

They have also been associated with detrimental effects on some consumers. This is because some people are under certain medications that do not allow them to eat broad beans. There is also the genetic predisposition of some people or have the certain genetic deficiency. This may result in favism which is a condition associated with consumption of fava grains. It is characterized by destruction of blood cells at a higher rate leading to hemolytic anemia.
