Some Facts Regarding The Salmon Lox And Its Preparation

Food is one of the basic necessities that one needs to have in order to survive. He needs to eat if he still wants to live. Food is the source of energy which one needs to do work. It is also where the body gets all the nutrients that it needs to perform the individual functions of every single one of the varied body parts.

While this remains to be a primal need, some see it as a source of immense pleasure. People do not eat to live anymore, because now they live to eat. Since more and more are into food worship, the people in the food business employ every trick in the book to make more profits. There is the famed rise of the chains serving fast food and other instant meals. All of these are delicious, yes, but they hardly give the body any vitamins nor minerals. They are only good when taken in sparingly, but for daily consumption, it is better to settle for healthier ingredients, such as fish.

The lox is a fillet of brined salmon. It is traditionally served on a bagel, along with some cream cheese. It is also usually garnished with tomato, sliced red onions, and capers. Minced lox is even a valuable ingredient for American fritata.

This part of the fish is cured and smoked, but this is not actually cooked. This is why it remains really smooth and pink. It does not look like cooked salmon fillets, and is primarily served in very thin slices. In the United States, it is enjoyed by most of the population as a popular breakfast food, which is why they are often eaten with bagels.

Even though they are usually eaten early in the mornings, some consume them even for lunch and dinner. They can be even made into sandwiches as some sort of a midday meal. It is even incorporated in appetizer plates in some restaurants, serving it along with slices of fresh fruits such as grapes and apples.

Since there are all sorts of salmon products that are found in abundance in markets, people often confuse the belly lox with other commercial products that look more or less like it. For starters, they often believe that the Nova lox is the same as the one often served with cream cheese. Though they indeed look similar, this one uses a milder version of the brine.

The Scottish style salmon is another. Instead of just salt, sugar, spices, and other flavorings are also added. It is also famous for dry brining, as the brine is typically rinsed off before smoking.

Finally, yet another salmon product that is being mistaken for the lox is the gravlax. It is also widely recognized as the Gravad lax, prepared using the old Nordic tradition. The salmon is first coated in a special mixture that has quite an abundances in spices. It is not served without the special mustard dill sauce.
