How To Prevent False Alarms With Your Commercial Security System

If you have ever had to deal with a false alarm from your commercial security system, then you know how frustrating it can be! Not only can it cause the police to have to come to your business for no reason, but you may also end up with a hefty bill to pay!

One reason you may get a false alarm is because your office workers do not know how to properly operate it. You should set up regular meetings so that you can train you people on how to use it. You may also want to create a video training that they can watch if they cannot attend the meetings.

Some commercial security systems have motion detectors connected. If your system has these, they could cause a false alarm. If there is clutter or other small objects in the area of the detectors, these could get kicked or blown into the path of the monitored area. When this happens, the motion detectors may be tripped, causing a false alarm.

Door and window seals are another thing to check when you are trying to prevent false alarm. If these are not in good condition, they may cause the alarm to sound. It is a good idea to check these every six months or so. If you notice wearing or fraying, have them repaired as soon as possible.

You will also want to make sure that your fire system is functioning properly. Smoke detectors, heat detectors and sprinkler systems can all malfunction if they are not maintained. Make sure wiring is intact and all batteries are fresh.

False alarms are not uncommon when you have a commercial security system. But there are many things you can do lower the chances that this will happen to you. Take the time to check your system and train your employees, so that you do not have to endure the hassle of having the authorities come to your business for no reason.
