Eyes & How They Might Benefit From Olive Oil

By Katie Arden

In order for one's eye health to be preserved, it's clear that certain methods stand out more than others. One can make the argument that a diet consisting of vegetables like carrots and various leafy greens can help matters while another person will state that cutting back on smoking can have its benefits as far as eye health is concerned. Is it possible, though, that olive oil can prove to be just as useful? I'd like to think that this is the case after reading over a particular report.

The Olive Oil Times posted an article that talked about how lutein, in tandem with said oil, can prove to be useful in the long term. By definition, lutein is seen as a carotenoid in the body; basically, it's an antioxidant that is able to help the body as far as health is concerned. For those who are curious as to where exactly lutein can be taken from, think about leafy and green products along the lines of lettuce. As far as where exactly lutein can come into play, there are a few examples to note.

Lutein, as the report detailed, has been a proven components to help reduce macular degeneration in humans. Keep in mind that lutein is able to protect one's retinas and, by proxy, slows down any kind of aging with the eyes seen over the course of time. To put it simply, the eyes are protected for longer periods of time. Even though olive oil may not exactly play into this, on it own, there is a bit of science that deserves to be looked into by those who are enthusiasts of said oil.

Researchers from the University of Jan took the lutein content from seaweed and brought into olive oil. It's important to note that products like these should remain intact for natural effect, which is what companies like Unaprol can attest to. However, it's been said that it took these researchers about a year and a half to come up with a process that doesn't alter this product's taste or color. The fact that this was done shows that there is potential behind this study.

It's clear that there is quite a bit of potential to be had with this type of method. I want to believe that there are many ways for overall health - whether it's related to the eyes or not - to be maintained and this type of oil more than deserves to be noted. The fact that the integration of lutein did not change this product's taste or appearance is uplifting, to say the least. It shows that this type of oil can still be as healthy as ever while bringing something extra to the table.
