The Doritos Locos tacos from Taco Bell are sure distinctive, being a taco with a Doritos chip shell. They also are a smashing success - aside from promoting almost 400 million of them, 15,000 careers were created because of the things.
Helped Taco Bell a lot
Ever watch those "TED" Talks? It's essentially a series of symposiums where prosperous people talk about things in front of other wealthy people. One was questionable. Nick Hanauer, a venture capitalist and founding in-vestor in Amazon, said that business people weren't really job makers - customers are.
Careers are created by demand, so people have to demand thing if they want an increase chain of supply.
You can see the footage on YouTube, though it was buried in the TED footage.
Taco Bell proved his point though. Taco Bell, in fact, is adding 15,000 jobs to the payroll simply because the "Doritos Locos" tacos were quite popular and there was such a high demand, according to Daily Mail.
Way too many followers
Granted, Taco Bell doesn't say exactly HOW 15,000 jobs were added by Doritos Locos. It does seem slightly ridiculous - is that 15,000 more people making the stuff for them? Does it contain truckers, restaurant staff?
When Taco Bell first started the taco, it was tested in a few areas where it was extremely successful. Then, it was re-leased throughout the whole nation. The one item made up a quarter of all Taco Bell taco sales, according to the Christian Science Monitor, and over 375 million were sold in 2012.
The Nacho Cheese flavor was launched last year. In the last couple of weeks, the Cool Ranch flavor was released, according to the LA Times. The Cool Ranch fla-vor has 140 calories and 7 grams of fat while the nacho flavor has 160 calories and 10 grams of fat. It also costs less than $2 per taco, so it will not break the personal bank to spend there.
Taco greater than a ta-co
Just like the McRib, people are going absolutely insane over the Doritos tacos. It does not make any sense and is really sort of gross whenever you think over it, but apparently people love it.
Evidently people are just nuts.
