How To Make A Really Delicious Baklava

To make on could be time consuming. A baklava is a pastry that is sweet and is made from phyllo dough layers, with chopped nuts for filling and made more sweet by some syrup or honey. This is popular for countries in the Middle East. This type of recipe is not for new bakers. But, be sure you will be following the steps stated below so you will be guided.

You would need one packet or about 375g of phyllo dough, 180g butter that is melted and cooled, and 2 teaspoons of water. For its filling, you will be needing 150g walnuts, 150g unsalted pistachios, 55g or about one fourth cup caster sugar, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. For the honey syrup, make sure you have 375g jar of honey, 165g or about three fourth cup sugar, 250ml water, and 1 lemon with the rind finely grated and juiced.

First, you have to preheat your oven for 180 degrees C. Make the filling first. You should be spreading the walnuts on your baking tray. Lightly toast it on the oven for about five to eight minutes until its aroma could be smelled. After toasting, cool that down. Next, you should combine walnuts, pistachio, sugar and the cinnamon on a bowl. Place it on your food processor. You should process that until they are chopped finely while pressing that pulse button on the processor.

You need to remove the filo dough on its packet. Lie them flat at the table. Have that covered with dry tea towels and damp tea towels. If you would be doing that, it is a great help in keeping that dough dry while you start making one.

Prepare 18 by 28cm cake tin that is shallow. Brush the inside part with butter. Get one third of phyllo. Brush its top sheet with some butter then fold that into thirds to make one rectangle in the size of that tin. Place it on that tin and then brush the surface with some butter.

Next, you have to continue the layering process using one third of the dough that was left. Take the nuts for filling and spread half of it to the phyllo to cover it. Then, layer half of the sheets just like the previous step. Spread the remaining nuts over it and then top it with the remaining sheets. Brush the top layer with the remaining butter.

Using a sharp knife, cut some diamond patterns on the top layer. After you have done that, sprinkle some water on it. Bake for at least 30 minutes. Cover that with foil and cook it more for 45 minutes.

While you wait for that, start making the honey syrup. Combine honey, sugar, water, lemon rind and lemon juice in a saucepan. Stir that over heat until the sugar dissolves. Bring it to a boil in medium heat for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and cool it down. Remove the cooked ones from the oven and pour the syrup. Spread it evenly and cool it down.

That is best when served with coffee. Add some whipped cream too. There are many people who are addicted to this dessert which is really delicious. Try to make one for your guests.
