Premise For Christian Arguments Against Evolution

By Essie Osborn

Science and religion have always presented divergent ideas. According to Christians, God is the ultimate creator of everything that we see, man included. Contrastingly, the scientists approach this issue by proposing many hypotheses and theories such as that of evolution. There have been heightened arguments on this thorny issue. Christian arguments against evolution have been received differently.

The evolutionists believe in the assertion of Charles Darwin that human beings are descendants of apes. According to them, they changed their appearance over millions of years due to environmental and genetic changes. There is therefore the presumption that very soon humans will be transformed into another form and apes will become like humans.

For the Christians, The Bible provides a true account of how heaven and earth came to be. Genesis one tells us that God created man in His to be like Him in appearance. When man fell into a deep sleep, God removed one of his ribs from which woman was created. They were given the Garden of Eden to be their source of food and shelter. From there they were to increase the population of earth through reproduction.

Evolution has met strong condemnation from religious scholars. They believe that it was not possible for man to have evolved from lesser beings. This is foregrounded by the fact that scientists have not managed to breathe life into robots because the source of life is more than oxygen. It is a mystery to them. Test tubes cannot provide life to a dead body.

The ultimate end of this world has always been the preoccupation of many but their forecasts have all proven to be futile. That day still remains a mystery as the Messiah asserted. The Bible clearly states that even the son does not know the day or the hour. Only the father does. This gives the Biblical explanation an upper hand. Evolutionist thinking only serves to foreground the alienation of Africans as lesser beings with the presumption that they are nearer the apes in the evolutionary ladder.

Although Darwin and his theory of natural selection and survival for the fittest are being studied in classrooms, believers find it out rightly wrong. One man who was not religious in the first place could not claim such a revelation. Being a theory, it has the probability ratio of either being right or wrong. What is written in the Holy Book however cannot be disputed because it came from the Great One whose knowledge surpasses that of man.

Faith issues are quite hard to deal with since people have diverse beliefs and everyone thinks their belief is the best. It is virtually impossible convince a large mass of people out of their faith. The common belief is that the earth has never changed but the people in it have made it what it is. The beliefs that various people have adopted have influenced their behaviors.

It has therefore been a tough war of wits between the believers and the pragmatists. Only time will tell who wins. If Christ comes and takes His people to Zion, then the men of the cloth will have won. On the other hand if global warming, climate change or any other natural catastrophe ends life on Earth as the scientists predict then they will have had their day.
