For a long period of time, companies that are involved in manufacturing processes have sourced their raw materials in liquid form. This is the norm because it is easier to handle liquids. However, switching to sourcing raw materials in powder form comes with many benefits compared to those brought by sourcing raw materials in liquid form. Huge shipping costs are saved. Shipping costs become even bigger by sourcing raw materials in large quantities. However, one shortcoming that comes from sourcing materials in powder form is that one must have an efficient in-house induction system to convert solids into liquids. The process is supposed to be simple and straight forward where one just pours the solid into liquid and mixes them to produce a liquid.

In the real world, this process is not as easy as it may sound. The mixing process can be very troublesome in the production environment. The first trouble comes from the creation of dust during the mixing. There is a lot of duct that is created when powders are poured into liquids. The dust spreads in the workplace, putting workers in danger of developing respiratory problems.

The dust can also enter circuit boards of various machines, causing equipment failure. The workplace is rendered very dirty when the dust settles on various surfaces. The dust that spreads in the place of work increases the risk of explosion if the material is explosive in nature. One should also be prepared to experience a buildup of agglomerates and lumps within the interior walls of mixing equipment. In the end, the product is wasted a lot.

The lumps may end up impeding the mixing process once they grow into large sizes. This will end up costing a lot of money to remove. As such, the cost will be driven higher. Another effect of mixing powders is that tools such as knives that are used to open powder bags end up falling in the mixing equipment. This may end up contaminating the product and causing failure to the equipment.

To avoid all these negative effects, many companies invest in high efficiency systems that help in mixing powders in enclosed environment. An efficient system uses a transport and dispersing system (TDS) that inducts powders directly into the liquid without the formation of dust. Powders are transported directly from the bags they are supplied in directly into the liquid. This eliminates the use of knives and similar tools. It also eliminates the formation of lumps on the walls of the equipment.

TDS systems create a vacuum in the container where powders need to be poured. The vacuum sucks powders from bags directly into the container, without creation of dust. Bags are emptied completely too. These systems also make it possible to remove the exact amount of powder required from the bag. For instance, if only half a bag of the material is required, the TDS system is able to measure and suck the exact amount of material.

The rest of the content remains in the bag to be used later. Harmful materials can be handled efficiently using these induction systems. Examples of harmful materials that need careful handling include silica, black carbon, Diatomaceous earth, and pigments among many others.
