The breed of Criollo cattle is inclusive of Corriente cattle. Corriente cattle descended from Spanish animals which were introduced in America many centuries back. This breed was first introduced into the Americas back in early 1493 according to history. In light of its long American history, this breed is widely adopted in Americas. In fact, it is found in every state under the United States of America. This is worth knowing about corriente cattle for sale.

In terms of physique, this breed is relatively a small one. Cows weigh as little as 450 kilograms or thereabout. They have an athletic posture with learn bodies. Their horns face up as they grow. As a result of the little required human intervention by these animals in comparison to other breeds, farmers usually refer to them as easy keepers. For example, they can deliver calves without requiring assistance from humans. Also, during calving incidences of dead calves are rare.

They are known to consume less unlike other milk or beef breeds. They can do well with very little water and can also survive well on a sparsely open ranch. This cattle breed is famed for its ability to escape confinements and thus labelled accomplished escape artists. They have the ability to jump over a standard barbed wire or squeeze themselves through pretty small openings.

Further development of these animals happened in the US despite their originating from Europe. Spanish settlers in the state of Florida are the ones who introduced this breed into the United States. As such, their concentration is much higher in this state than others. They are also referred to by other names in Mexico. This breed closely resembles Florida Cracker cattle and Pineywoods among other breeds.

Farmers rear these animals for several reasons. First, they are reared to produce milk. Secondly, they are reared to give meat, and lastly, they are reared as draught animals. Only a few farmers raise them for meat because they have very little fat compared to other beef breeds. Another major reason why people keep these animals is to use them as sport animals. They are used in rodeo events such as bulldogging and team roping.

Throughout the world, several animal rights organizations have condemned the use of this animal in sports. These organizations have been giving strong statements against the use of Corriente cattle in sports thus resulting to dropping their use in all forms of sports.

In recent years, the population of these animals has been declining. Today, their numbers are low and in response efforts to preserve then have been initiated. Lots of factors could by causing this decline but neglect appears to be the most realistic one. In consideration of their small sizes, farmers could be abandoning them in favor of more profitable breeds.

Generally, these animals have black coats as their primary color. This is not to say that they are not found in other coats like brown coats, or a combined black and brown coat. They have a perfect posture as their front and hind quarters are balanced. Their coats are dense while their tails are heavy.
