There are a lot of things that are to be observed when placing fires for your own safety. You can make your own pits but be sure to surround it with bricks or rocks. The next variation is a square grill. The square is a composition of the brazier and kettle grill. Like brazier, this is a simple type and adjusting the heat is made simpler. Another one is hibachi, the traditional grill used by the Japanese people and which also means small cooking. It is made from aluminum or cast iron.

Another one is kettle grill. This is very common for commercial uses. It is composed of charcoal an cooking grids, lid, lower chamber, venting system, and the legs. Next is cart which is similar to most typical that are being utilized. This can either be a kettle design or rectangular in form. It consists of charcoal and cooking grids and a hinged lid that is placed in the cart that has wheels.

Eighth type are barrels which are the most primitive form. Barrels are made from a steel barrel and is half in lengthwise. Another is ceramic cooker that is considered more versatile compared to kettle because it retains heat and moisture more efficiently. These are commonly utilized for smoking, grilling, and barbecuing foods.

Tandoor ovens are also used for oven cooking and for grilling. Food is placed on skewers, heated, and cooked in wood fire. Portable types fall either in brazier category or kettle category.

Hybrid types are used usually for outdoor cooking. Propane, charcoal, or natural gas are used as fuels. And lastly, it is the combination of the techniques in charcoal and wood grill.
