Mistakes Made When Writing Childrens Poems About Animals

By Freida Michael

If one is just starting to write anything, it takes time and practice to get it right. This is also true when writing childrens poems about animals since this can be quite a challenge. Here is a look at the mistakes made when writing this type of poetry so that one can work their way towards creating the best work for kids.

For little children, poetry can teach them the sounds and behaviors of various creatures they see in the zoo, the farm or out in the wild. They can learn the sounds that cows and goats make and how they treat their young. They can also learn about lions and tigers and how they hunt for their food. This helps the child to learn about animals at an early age and have an appreciation for them.

Children are not encourage to write their own poetry. Even though this article is about writing for children, there is no one better to get ideas from than children themselves. They can best express how they really feel about their favorite pet if they are given the tools on how to create a poem that is true to their heart.

Some kids are not exposed to how an animal is treated and how to treat them. This is very important because cruelty to animals is never a good thing and the earlier a child learns this, the better. Poetry can and has been used by many as a way to bring awareness to certain issues, and this is no different when it comes to animals.

To write poetry for children, there are a few things to keep in mind. A person has to think in terms of what children want and how they feel about life in general. Having fun is the theme of a child's life, therefore poetry should be fun for them as well. If it is not funny in some way that they can appreciate then they will lose interest.

One should also consider the attention span of children, which is usually very short. Therefore, to hold their interest long enough, it is a good idea to have poetry that is short and interesting at the same time. A long, boring poem can create restlessness and make them wish they were outside playing on the swings or in a jungle gym. However, each child is different and can surprise you from time to time.

There is no musicality or rhyme to the poem. In order to hold a child's interest, one has to make sure that their poetry rhymes. This is one of the most important things to keep in mind because when a poem rhymes, a child tends to pay more attention. They can also guess what is about to happen as they listen because there is a pattern.

These are just some of the aspects of poetry for children and, in particular, those that talk about animals. There a number of poetry books for kids that one can find on the market. However, it is a good idea to let the child decide if that book is something that they find interesting or not.
