The Many Benefits Of Halal Certified Meals

By Diane Foster

Muslims live their lives according to the Islamic Law. This law contains numerous regulations that affect every part of the daily lives of all Muslims. There are many particular regulations related to the manufacturing, preparation and packaging of the food that Muslims consume. Food is an important part of being a Muslim. It not only nourishes the body but it also has an effect upon the morals and spirituality of every individual. That is why Halal certified meals are so important to them.

In order to obtain Halaal certification from a Halaal Council it is necessary to prove that all the rules related to food in the Islamic Law are followed to the letter. Certification is not granted easily and the evaluation process can take a long time. Even then, certification is only issued for one year at a time and if any rules are broken in the interim, certification will be withdrawn.

There are certain foods that Muslims may never consume. They may not eat pork in any form and they may not use alcohol, even when it is an ingredient of medication. When extracts and derivatives are used in the preparation of food, it must be from an abattoir where there are Muslim inspectors meticulously inspecting all the steps in the slaughtering process at all times.

The rules pertaining to Halaal food also covers all aspects of manufacturing and packaging. At no time may the food be in contact with other types of food. If this inadvertently happens, the food must be thrown away. The utensils used in preparing the food may not be used for any other purpose and the same holds true for the cookware and containers used. Everything must even be cleaned and stored separately.

Individuals not from the Muslim faith may also apply for certification. They just need to prove that they are able to adhere to the instructions of the Islamic Laws. They may even manufacture or prepare non Halaal food, as long as they take steps to prevent any cross contamination. Halaal councils advise applicants to employ at least two Muslims to supervise the processes but this is not a strict requirement.

There are numerous people that are not Muslim at all that prefer Halaal food. This is because only the very best ingredients are used in the preparation of this food and the entire process is strictly controlled and a high standard of hygiene is maintained at all times. Many people therefore believe that Halaal food is healthier than other food that is not as strictly controlled.

The market for Halaal food is massive. It is not surprising that there are dealers and suppliers that try to con consumers into thinking that their products are certified while they are not. They use vague terms such as Halaal friendly on their packaging and this fools some people. When buying food one should make sure that the official logo of the Halaal Council is displayed on the packaging.

There are no mystic elements involved in Halaal certification. It is simply a matter of high hygienic standards and the use of strictly controlled high quality ingredients. Unfortunately, much of the food consumed by non Muslims all over the world cannot compete with these high standards.
