Illinois Elections 2014 For Governor Is Critical

By Lila Bryant

It has been a tough time for the republicans in Illinois.Democrat governors and other democratic candidates continue to dominate most elective seats . Illinois elections 2014 are a big opportunity for republicans to clinch back some of these seats and thus determine their future trajectory in the politics of Illinois. However there are new legislative maps that have been developed which seem to favor democratic candidates. This has been a major challenge for Republicans for about a decade now. The maps have made it increasingly difficult for them to win back their seats

Despite the challenges that the Republicans have had for more than a decade, they are confident that they can win the elections clinching not only the gubernatorial position but also other posts. Their victory in the upcoming polls is the closest opportunity they have for restoring a balance in power. The party intends to nominate Pat Quinn as their flag bearer in the gubernatorial race. They have confidence in the candidate. Supporters believe that he is best qualified to tackle the challenges of high rate of unemployment, increased credit rating in the state and the rising taxes.

The Republican has been extremely aggressive in the recent campaigns. The chairperson of the party, Jack Dorgan recently stated that the main aim of the party is to clinch the governorship. He has great confidence in the party and even termed it as the needed economic driver for things to turn around in the state. The question that lingers is whether indeed they will foster development. The chairman has assured the supporters there is no need for worries, they should remain calm and see the state take another direction economically.

Even as the polls draw near Republican members have had disputes among themselves. One of the major contentious issue was deciding the best candidate for nomination among those that were contesting. Many republicans are of the view that Quinn could be the candidate to bring about transformational leadership and on to change the public opinion.

The nominations of the party election have created tension. Paul Green a director and professor at the University of Politics at Roosevelt says Pat Quinn is ranking high in the political arena and is power as a campaigner cannot be underestimated anymore. However it is not possible to predict fully at the moment the candidate that will win the nominations.

Before March 18, the Republican vying candidates had a tough time convincing the supporters of the party that they were the best candidates for the position and would win come November. The candidates were four, namely; Bill Brady, Kirk Dillard, Bruce Rauner and Treasurer Dan Rutherford.

Brady claimed to have experience in the office. He had defeated Quinn with more than thirty thousand votes during the 2010 elections. Brady argues that he has sat in the office before hence he is in a better position to drive development. Bloomington saw Quinn has a strong opponent because he has already gained public recognition.

Rutherford also appears a potential person for the seat. He won in previous election with about two million votes. Rutherford is confident and says had won in 2010 pools and he knows how to do it again. He terms his service has the missing link meant to turn the state around.Voters of Illinois join voters in other states to elect their senators and members to the house of representatives. They will on the same day elect various representatives to the state and local level.
