If you have chosen to use dried favas you will have to first soak them overnight in a bowl of water to soften them. When the soak is complete every bean will have grown as it will absorb some water. You should then drain your produce and use them to make your meal or you are able to store them.

If you prefer to buy pods and use fresh produce then you will need to do a little more preparation. The first thing to do is to remove each bean from the pod and place them in a bowl of ice cold water. You should then bring a pan of water to the boil and add the produce for around 30 seconds to blanch them before returning them back to iced water before peeling them.

When you are ready to eat the fresh fava beans you should steam them until they are cooked and they can then be used in salads of added to your hot dishes. Steaming is an extremely healthy way of cooking food and it helps to keep all of the goodness in the produce. If you do not wish to eat straight away you can freeze the freshly cooked produce until you are ready to use it.
