Unique And Authentic Greek Cuisine

Greeks have set the pace for the world on numerous fronts including on the plate. Their food variety will make your breakfast, lunch and dinner tasty and memorable. Their drinks are outstanding, with options for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic serving. The taste of authentic Greek cuisine is exemplary and mainly composed of grains, meat, fish, bread and tasty vegetables, among others. The choice for desert includes nuts, herbs, honey, bread and pastry, among a very wide selection.

Appetizers and salads are served in their variety on an excellently beautiful plate. Mezedes is a common serving since it is easy to prepare and perfect for an impromptu guest. Other options include deep friend vegetables, fava, gavros and kalamata olives. The common Greek Salad is made of tomatoes that are finely shred and mixed with cucumber, cheese and red onion sprinkled with olive oil.

It is seasoning that differentiates vegetable soups. Most of the vegetables used are common. For instance, lentil soup requires the addition of vinegar and olive oil. Rice soup is prepared by adding meat balls. There is kakavia soup that is common because it can be made using any local fish species as long as the bones are removed. Flavoring of rice and chicken soup requires the addition of lemon.

Vegetarians are catered for through tasty and nutritious servings. Their foods are also recommended for people who are fasting because it will provide them with all essential nutrients and the energy they require. Some of the common ingredients for vegetarian dishes include aromatic herbs, onions, oven baked peas, carrot dill and potatoes. There are a lot of greens served with potatoes and beans. They may form part of a light or quick meal.

Greeks are heavy consumers of sea foods and meat. Lean pork, lobsters and beef are the common choices. Some are made into meat balls while others are cooked in soup. You may also find grilled meat that is seasoned with among other additions, pepper, herbs and lemon. Rabbit or hare stew also features often on the menu flavored with cinnamon and served with a glass of wine.

Greeks have a variety of meals to prepare when you have limited time and whose ingredients are affordable. The most common is macaroni and spaghetti that are served with vegetables and soup. Omelet is another quick fix meal. There is a native serving referred to as hilopites made of savory chicken sliced in form of tiles and topped with tomato sauce.

Sweets and deserts formed part of any meal. Common desert included almond which was prepared using meat balls that were coated with sugar and rose water. Nuts also formed part of desert alongside Christmas cookies with powder sugar used as coating. You may also choose to have yogurt with honey and walnuts added.

A wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks is available to wash down the meals. Coffee is another common serving with snacks or without. Tea with herbs such as chamomile and mint also makes a tasty selection. Greeks have a tradition of excellently brewed wines and beers. Local liquor is also available with wine and flavoring.
