Internet Marketing: What Do You Need To Learn?

By Heath Joseph

Do it yourself websites are a good way to start and get your foot in the door. But if you have more than a storefront location somewhere that you just want to advertise and give directions to, you may want to eventually pay a professional to make a unique site just for your business. Polished and easy-to-use websites will foster more business than those who use the same template as 1000 others out there.

To be successful at internet marketing, focus on quality, rather than quantity of response you receive. Visitors to a site are useless if they're not customers who are interested in your product. By focusing your energy on people interested in things your company specializes in, you are more likely to gain their attention and respect.

Don't forget the call to action. Every single piece of communication from you should include a link to your website, as well as a suggestion to "learn more", "get a free sample" and other enticing statements that make your visitors want to click over to your site. This will urge them to go further and result in higher viewers and higher sales.

You should be using some sort of analytic tracking. If you are not sure where your customers are coming from, you won't be targeting the right audience in future marketing pushes. Use of this kind of tracking will give you much needed geographical information and usage patterns while customers are on your site.

When you are running an online business, make sure that the content of your website stays fresh. If your customers see the same content on your site day after day, they will soon lose interest and move on to other places. When you offer something new periodically, this will keep your customers interested.

Check for spelling mistakes in your content. Improper spelling and grammar can give visitors to your site the perception that your business is not the most important thing to you, especially if the mistakes linger for days and days. Use a word processor or text-based editor to review your content prior to posting.

Do not overdo it. Try to, at some point, be satisfied with the customer base you have. Do not stop working on optimization, but do not allow it to become your entire focus. You have readership that you need to satisfy, so you should always worry about quality of content over quantity of consumers.

You need to carefully select a domain name to aid with your marketing. Try using some imagination when thinking up a name for your domain. Also, try to add a bit of a description as to what your services or products may entail in the name. Try to think of something clever that will interest people into clicking on your site.

Be sure to keep an eye on your keyword density and adjust it as needed. On any given page, keywords and phrases should make up about 3-5 percent of the text and links. Don't focus solely on your home page, either. Make sure every page on your site includes some keywords.
