By Scott Nelson

The AFN is a satellite and basic cable television channel that airs were cooking and food programs both in US and other countries in the world. The American Food Network was one of the earliest food systems formed and up to 2015 it had over 96 million viewers only in the US.

Having been formed in 1992, with its original brand name being the TV Food Network, which changed to what is known as today, this channel is owned by two corporate partners. Scripps Network Interactive owns 70% of it while Tribune Ventures Owns the remaining 30% through Scripps handles much of the day to day management.

In ensuring that they tap the maximum out of their targeted audience, they opted to have two different categories of their programs. One is the Food Network in the Kitchen, which is only aired during the day that is directly related to foods and cooking. Also, there is the Night time show aired at night involving exceptional entertainment food related programs.

For the programs that are aired during the days, the viewers can sharpen their cooking skills through being given tips by respected chefs who host these programs. Recipes of different kinds of foreign foods are always showcased. This enables their viewers to have a taste of other cultures.

Also, there are programs that are hosted by special chefs who can showcase their skills in preparing the standard types of foods using different techniques. Since all the views are households, such programs have enabled them to make the ordinary food kinds that they eat to be more appetizing after eating them for long.

The majority of those watching these programs were observed and confirmed not to be cooking fanatics but had a soft spot for these cooking skills that they enjoyed watching. To enhance their like for the programs, the management opted to increase the number of food related entertainment channels. This move has improved the viewing of these programs.

One of these programs are the cooking competition programs. This is where different chefs have been selected for auditions and the game involve them being given special ingredients to use them in coming up with a good meal. There are there to vet them with the winner going away with a set grand prize after different levels of elimination.

Since the competition programs are the bestselling, their number has steadily been on the rise with 2 in 2005 to 16 in 2015. Programs like this, Star Guy, Guys Grocery Games just naming a few have continued to add more fans with time. This has increased the market for the channel hence increasing the annual profits that are made making it the most profitable channel.

This is mainly attributed to their daily increased viewers who have been attracted more to this channel since the introduction of reality show and documentaries on food and cooking. Their product extension programs have also enhanced their continued market which has always been sky rocketed. One of them is the developing of a video game for their young fans and also having other sister channels.
