Buying And Having Your Lobster Tails Shipped

By Dennis Cox

When you go out to buy seafood, if you do not do this often, you might end up buying something that is spoilt. In most cases, unless you live near a large water body, you will find that you need to buy the sea food frozen. This will mean you might need to have your lobster tails shipped to where you are. When you are buying these products, you need to make sure they are of excellent quality.

Most people buy frozen sea food, without thinking about how it got to them. When you are transporting these items, you need to ensure that they are totally frozen, to prevent delivering rotten items. Lobster, particularly, can go off very fast if not stored properly. If you think your items were not stored at the right temperatures, you can refrain from taking them and immediately contact the shipping company.

When you get the produce, you need to inspect the containers if they seem damaged, or the seals are broken. This might mean that the product inside has been tampered with. This might lead to the introduction of contaminants, which will definitely affect the quality of the meat.

Once you get to look at the tails themselves, observe for any discoloration the meat. This might be black, yellow or grayish spots. This can be signs of physical damage, or infection by microorganisms. Normally, people buy either warm or cold water lobster. The cold water variety is more expensive, but is reputed to taste a lot better.

Cleanliness is another thing you have to check. Seafood can easily go off when stored in unhygienic conditions. The ship, its containers, and the people handling your produce, should be clean. They also need to vigilantly keep checking for anything, which may compromise the tails. Once you get them, any slime or blood needs to be washed off with cold water. This will also get rid of any microorganisms, which may be on the shells.

The process of processing and shipping the tails, might take up two days. You should, therefore, try to eat the lobster on the day you buy them. While transporting them to the kitchen, you need to make sure they are kept frozen. If they start to thaw, it might affect their taste.

In case you want to buy the shipment for a private function and you do not know who to use, get references from someone at the local sea food market. You can also ask at a restaurant, and have them include your purchase while they order for theirs. If you cannot buy them in person, you can even order online.

Steaming, baking, and even grilling, are some of the various ways you can prepare this meat. The method you choose will be determined by your preferences, and also what you plan to serve as an accompaniment. Normally, a slice of lemon and a stick of butter are always included when serving the meal.
