The first people to set foot in Greenland arrived around 4-5000 years ago from the North American continent via Canada when the sea froze in the narrow strait at Thule in northern Greenland.

On May 1, 1979, Greenland gained home rule, with its own local parliament (Landsting).

The following year in 1974 a daily paper distributed eleven different outlines out of which ten highlighted a Nordic Cross. In 1978, a configuration challenge was held.
