The Malaysia Airlines Plane Found Hoax

By Ines Flores

News of the finding of Malaysia Air Boeing 777 that disappeared in 2014 has been revealed as a hoax. The fake tweets, images and videos titled Malaysia airlines plane found are part of a marketing campaign to direct traffic to a particular site. The images capture ships sailing in an ocean but not involved in the actual search.

The Dream Liner was an international passenger flight to Beijing from Malaysian Kuala Lumpur International Airport. All 239 passengers are still unaccounted for. Contact was lost an hour after takeoff with the signal disappearing two minutes later. The aircraft remained within the Malaysian radar for 55 minutes before it disappeared never to be seen.

Search and rescue missions have been carried out over an expansive area since it disappeared. They involve helicopters, ships, jets, boats and hundreds of sea specialists. Tracking technology from different nations has been deployed without success.

It is the absence of information that has increased speculation about the finding of this Dream Liner. Reports indicate that it was found in water as debris. Other sources point at remote islands in either Indian Ocean or Mediterranean Sea as the site of crush. However, none of these leads have borne fruits.

In some of the latest images about the sighting of this Dream Liner, a sailor is credited with having stumbled upon the wreckage. The report indicates that he received the five million dollars promised to anyone with a clue. The page lures readers to share the story in order to access the video. It has been revealed that this is a dodgy network marketing scheme.

Despite sharing the link on social media, it is difficult to view the video. A series of marketing surveys follows before you eventually land on some images. It is frustrating to realize that the images are not even of Malaysian Air. They belong to US Airways Flight 1549 which crashed in January 2009 in Hudson River, New York.

The dodgy affiliate marketing scheme takes advantage of unending curiosity surrounding the disappearance of the Dream Liner. Through the clicks as people search for the video, the site owners earn millions. Beyond the clicks and surveys, they have pages where you are required to enter you phone number. This will lead to a subscription to a very expensive text message service. You will never find the video but will help the marketers to make a lot of money.

The whereabouts of 239 passengers aboard the commercial flight remains a puzzle. The jet is also said to have been among the most advanced in the market. Despite availability of advanced technology, nothing has been found yet. Dozens of countries have been combing the Indian Ocean with no success.

Family members believe that there was a conspiracy involving countries and aviation industry players in its disappearance. They seek to offer any whistle blower five million dollars for information regarding the plane. With no information on the Boeing 777 Dream Liner almost a year after disappearance, any news about what happened after takeoff from Malaysia International Airport is welcome and goes viral.
