Tasty Meal With Vegan Granola

By Janet Thomas

Strict veganism or vegan for want of another description is someone that abstains from eating or making use of any animal and by product. However, one can still enjoy Vegan granola which is a versatile product enjoyed by many vegans. It is a popular sort after snack and can be either be bought off the shelf or made by oneself in the home kitchen.

Using the imagination is called for as this product can be modified into a variety of dishes. Strict vegetarians have coupled with their dietary adherences, a set philosophy and some even say a religion. No dairy products are used in its preparation but some additives such as fruit and dried fruit are used to spruce up the recipe. The result is a sumptuous meal bearing in mind that yogurt and milk products are not used.

Vegans take using animal products a step further. They refrain from the use of any animal product and even believe that it is not a sustainable product. Some do not use even any kinds of animal products such as leather used for shoes, belts and other clothing accessories.

It is a crunch and makes up a wholesome meal for practices such as these as it contains high amounts of protein and roughage as it is consumed with almonds, sesame seeds and other nut or seed based products. To beef up the meal, fruit and dried fruit are added in varying combinations and quantities. Instead of milk which non vegans partake of, fruit juices can be substituted to make it more liquidy as eating it on its own can be have a rather dry consistency.

It is an easy task to make and it's basic constituents have not been changed for many years. Rolled oats, almonds and other seeds have been known to be used and these are baked in an oven together with a non animal extract of oil such as sunflower oil. Other seeds are sometimes added such as sesame and sunflower seeds.

Don't forget the dried fruit though. These can be any dried fruits such as dates, sultanas, dried peach and raisins to name just a few. Toss everything into a mixer and chop up but not too finely. Once this has been done, add honey or maple syrup or even organic sugar with a bit of water and then bake until crunchy but tried to avoid burning as sugar based substances such as honey will tend to burn easily.

It is a terrific meal. It can be eaten at anytime of the day. In place of milk, others substitutes can be used such as rice milk, soya or even coconut milk.

Vegans adhere to a strict diet and with this product it is not different. The term granola was coined in the mid eighteen hundreds in a town called Dansville New York. It has grown in its use in leaps and bounds and is enjoyed by all in every part of the globe.
