A Bride's Guide To Great Wedding Catering Boston

By Shawn Hunter

If you are getting married and just starting your wedding planning you may be overwhelmed by the number of decisions that you need to make. Although many people start by worrying more about the visual things such as flowers and the outfits that the participants will wear, it is also important to choose the right wedding catering Boston for your event so that your guests can enjoy themselves at the reception.

One of the nice things about living in the Boston, MA area is that there are quite a few caterers to choose from. Some companies may be larger than others and some may specialize in certain types of cuisine. While it can be good to have a wide selection of service providers to choose from it can be overwhelming if you do not know how to narrow down the choice.

Often, couples who are marrying will decide a few basics about their reception before hunting for someone to make the wedding meal. They may want to figure out where they are holding the celebration and may also determine a time of day so that they know what kind of meal they want to serve. If you have a site in mind, one question to ask them is whether they cater or not.

Budget is also an important thing to consider. Knowing how much you can afford to spend on your food will help you narrow down your options. If you have a very small budget to work with you may need to be quite creative with your catering decisions. You may need to choose a less expensive meal option or even reduce your guest list so that you do not spend more than you are able to.

Caterers can usually accommodate most types of meals. If, however, you have a very large guest list, you may need to ask whether a particular company has experience working with large groups. If possible, give them a rough idea of how many people will be attending your event. Some smaller companies may not have the staff or the equipment to accommodate your event and it is a good idea to know this early on.

Some couples may know ahead of time which caterers they want to work with. They may have enjoyed a meal that a particular company served and want to recreate a similar experience for their guests. In some cases, this may mean that you will need to be a bit creative so that the food bill will work with the amount of money you can afford to spend. You may need to switch from a sit down dinner to a buffet or even reduce the number of guests that you will be feeding.

While you may be focusing mainly on the meal itself, you may want to consider having other food at your reception as well. An increasing number of couples are hosting a cocktail hour that fills time between the end of the ceremony and the beginning of the reception. Others provide a midnight buffet for their guests which can be wonderful if you have a celebration that will extend late into the evening.

Some professionals will want to meet with you a few times during the planning process. It is always fun to schedule a tasting of the different options that a caterer offers and make your final decision as to what you will serve at that point. You will need to contact them closer to the event date so that you can finalize menu details and notify your chosen provider about guest numbers.
